Cut Copy - Take Me Over

Not 100% sure about this one. Cut Copy is one of those bands that I've always liked but there was always something  I couldn't quite connect with. I think this song is the one that made the penny drop. It's Dan, the vocalist (keyboard/guitarist). Although he has had some great moments, he's just not a great singer, and his voice just isn't that nice to listen to.  His song writing skills and mastery of all things synth-pop-electro etc etc is fantastic, it's just his lethargic, nasally vocals don't sit very well with me, and I'm not sure why. Lack of range perhaps, maybe a lack of confidence and a hesitance to test it's limits. I think that may be the one thing holding Cut Copy back.
I can't help be reminded of Upstation's song 'Take Me Out' where they're doing basically the same thing, only better...  see below.

No disrespect to Cut Copy tough, this song is a good one, just not a great one. I certainly don't think it will make their Greatest Hits album if they ever do one, amongst their greater tracks like 'Lights & Music', 'Hearts on Fire' and 'That was just a Dream'.
They did mention that this song was 'certainly one of the more pop moments on the album', so let's hope there's plenty of 'less-pop moments' to counter it.
I'm sure this album will be a cracker and I'll definitely be checking it out either way as Cut Copy are still Cut Copy and they know how to blow shit up.

RAC Remixers. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero

I've been wanting to post an RAC remix for a while now but couldn't quite decide which one, until this one turned up. This is the best YYYs remix since A-Trak did Heads Will Roll, possibly even better.

Remix Artist Collective, comprised of 5 DJs from across USA and Europe, is absolutely killing the remix scene and you know if they get their greasy mits on your track, that it's gonna come up all nice & shiny.

Not to mention the majority of their stuff is up for free download here, such delightful cats.

Get into 'em.

Youtube to mp3 - Get on it.

Anyone out there that has firefox (and probably safari, not sure about windows crap) can get a hold of a great little thing called 'Youtube to mp3'.
It is a little bit cheeky, but very easy. Basically go to the Firefox add-ons page here and look for 'Youtube to mp3', it should eb the first result. Download it, install it, go for your life.
Basically from then on you should see a couple little boxes with blue writing beneath the frame saying 'Convert & Download" and it will bring up another tab where you follow the instructions and seconds later the song from that video will appear in your itunes. Brilliant.
Nowadays there's very few songs you can't find on youtube. Many are, in fact, posted with this particularly in mind, as there's just a crappy picture or album cover instead of a clip.
Anyway, just thought that little bit of info may attract a few extra readers/watchers/listeners/whatever.
Orright kids, happy listening.

Aussie Music

Just got a little bored this morning and thought, hey, why don't I do something slightly creative with my time rather than sitting around watching youtube and reading Woody Allen books (not that there's anything wrong with that). Here's the product.
The land down under, and some of my favourite bands that have sprouted from within it. A beautiful place to which I will be returning in just a few weeks.
I'm not still into all of them, but they've all had a fair bit of airtime on my Pod or on the ol' compact disc spinner at one time or another.
Get amongst it and explore 'em. You never know, you just might like 'em!

Warpaint - Billie Holiday

When I hit play in this song I had to do a double-take and make sure that it wasn't Cat Power doing another one of her amazing airy/eerie tunes.

It wasn't. It was, in fact, LA all girl band Warpaint. I got onto these through checking out The Xx on iTunes Ping, as they were raving about Warpaint's latest release 'Undertow' which is an incredible song as well, but this one really caught my attention with the 'My Guy' chorus creeping in there somehow.

They've got a hauntingly ethereal combination of guitar and vocal, both tip toeing around each other creating exquisite, fuzzy melodies that chill and rattle you.

Their album 'The Fool' came out last month and you'd be doing yourself a favour if you went out and bought it. Put it on after the party's died and your doing your puttin' in work.

PS. Did I mention that super-hot Shannyn Sossamon (below) used to be in this band? Man I would've loved to see that live.

Kid Cudi - Erase Me ft Kanye

Kid Cudi is hot shit right now. This song, well, maybe a little indulgent and silly but, it's not THAT bad, and he's one of the most versatile as far as genre-spanning and collabo-action.
I just liked this one for all the cameo's in the clip. It's a bit boring and Kanye's verse is shitty, and I probably won't be listening to it again after this but check the video anyway, it's cool.

Belle and Sebastian - New album & title track "Write About Love" featuring Carey Mulligan

Featuring the voice of major-hot Carey Mulligan. Mmm. Julia Robert's for the two-thousand-teens, or something.

So for all of you white people out there, good news has just been delivered. Your favourite 'indie-but-like-popular-underground-sound-they've-got-like-heaps-of-songs-on-movie-soundtracks-and-stuff' bands Belle and Sebastan have a (fairly) new album.
The same groovy melodies, faint-hearted, early morning after- brilliance.
It's one of those delightful 'play it three times a day and not get bored' albums.
Very summery, for you people down south of Capricorn, I'll be seeing you soon, to sit around, get high and vibe out on this album in the afternoons when that northerly has kicked in and there's nothing to do but sit on the couch and sweat in silence.
It's also got another cool & kooky cover shot that nobody really gets.
Enjoy.

Golden Silvers - Please Venus

Most underrated band in the UK. Great sound. Great lyrics. Nuff said.
